They turn out to be pretty good shallow fried in butter as long as you do them hot enough.
It's more that a proper chip pan full of boiling oil takes up a lot of space and is an accident waiting to happen.
I used to have an amazing deep fat fryer full of beef dripping, with so many safety interlocks it was impossible to get it wrong even when drunk, but that takes a proper power supply. It's the only thing I really miss about living in a house.
My boat systems would be overloaded by a electric deep fryer, and I don't trust myself with a chip pan. Too easy to cause a fire with or knock it off the stove while passing.
It's always been my favourite condiment. I think I started to suspect that vinegar had small amounts of sulphites in it a couple of years ago, but I fairly quickly noticed that there were various artificial types that I can still have without issue, so I don't think there was much of an off-the-vinegar period, although there might have been a lull somewhere....
Why don't you buy a "chip pan" (=deep fryer?)? Is it not different enough in taste to warrant the expense/effort?

Oh, I forgot that you live on a boat
Shower thought: you recently mentioned vinegar, didn't you? When did you start that? Does that correlate w/ the weight loss?
