So on the 31st of May I ate a load of chips (steak fries US readers), two potatoes cut into thick oblongs and shallow-fried in butter.
And since then I've been eating such things pretty regularly, to the point where I've got a bit sick of them, which wasn't a mental state I knew existed. Sometimes I have made them with yams instead.
So I am eating mainly cream, butter, chips, carrots, sour cream, crème fraîche, and beef and vegetable stew. I'm drinking spirits occasionally too.
Apart from the usual no-PUFAs, no-sulphites, the things I'm noticing not eating compared to what I'd be eating normally are cheese, bread, black puddings, milk and eggs. And I'm keeping to only buying 1kg of beef per week for the stew, but always topping it up with vegetables and tomato passata.
I'm not even being that strict about it, the other night I was quite drunk after midnight and fancied a kebab and I thought 'Well, lamb is a ruminant, and salad does no harm'. And when I got my kebab I remembered that it is wrapped in a pitta bread, but because I'm fully carbed anyway I thought, oh-well and ate it anyway. There might even have been a bit of PUFA in the garlic sauce.
And as far as I can see my weight is still dropping rather sharply.
I'm not going to call it yet, since if you look at the graph closely it could easily be just 'stable but drifting', like it was for most of this year.
But my current seven-day moving average is 93kg bang, BMI 29.4, and I don't have to add 1.5kg of water-weight since I'm absolutely definitely not in ketosis now.
And that's the lowest I've been for years. Probably since the pandemic, which was when I first noticed I wasn't 85kg any more.
This hardly counts as a diet. I'm not craving the missing things, I'm eating totally ad-lib guided by my appetite, all I have to do is remember not to buy the missing things when I go to the shops.
Energy levels are fine, occasional bits of tiredness here and there but nothing serious, usually I’ve had all the energy I could want.
So I'm just going to stick with it until it becomes clear what's happening. It's no trouble at all.
Summer is here in force now, and I’m feeling too hot, so I’m going to cautiously reduce my thyroid dose a little bit and see what happens.
Why don't you buy a "chip pan" (=deep fryer?)? Is it not different enough in taste to warrant the expense/effort?
Shower thought: you recently mentioned vinegar, didn't you? When did you start that? Does that correlate w/ the weight loss?
