For reasons of pre-registration, I note here that I have convinced a bipolar friend of mine to try ex150ish. I took him to the supermarket and bought him the necessary ingredients for a week of the OG ad-lib beef stew and double cream diet, with strict instructions not to put more than 1kg of beef per week.
ex150ish definition
In summary, my first try "ex150ish" diet is: A pot of everlasting stew, containing: 1kg 80/20 ground beef per week with as much in the way of chopped tomatoes, passata, tomato puree, and not-terribly-carby vegetables either fresh or tinned as desired/convenient
Heโs a few days in and reports feeling dreadful for several days (I totally forgot to give him any keto-electrolyte pills ooops.) but thinks heโs now adapted, is in ketosis and doesnโt feel dreadful any more. The interesting thing of course, is what happens nextโฆ.
I mean, obviously this is a terrible idea, but on the other hand, we might learn something, and I think itโs much more likely to do him some good, and possibly a lot of good, than to do him harm.
He knows perfectly well that Iโm an irresponsible crackpot full of half-baked mad ideas, and is probably reading this! Hi!
Unless your friend is obese, your extreme low protein diet may not be necessary to see symptom improvement. Has your friend read Brain Energy by Dr Christopher Palmer? Metabolic Mind is another source of science based low carb treatment for mental disorders, especially schizophrenia and bipolar.
Nothing like putting "idiopathic" conditions into remission to make yourself a skeptic of establishment medicine..
