So on the basis that just 'low protein and no PUFAs' might be the answer, I didn't go back to eating "whatever ad lib" after ex150ish-4-sour-cream-and-crème-fraîche.
What I did do was start eating loads of bread and potatoes as well as the ex150ish-4-sour-cream-and-crème-fraîche foods.
Mainly I've been chopping the potatoes into chip-shapes, looking sadly at them, and then putting them in the stew and boiling it all.
And then eating that stew with buttered toast and lots of sour cream and crème fraîche.
I think if anything, I've been eating less protein these last seventeen days than I was during the ex150ish-4-sour-cream-and-crème-fraîche, because putting potatoes in the stew meant I didn't feel like adding minced beef as often.
But maybe the extra protein in the potatoes and sour cream has compensated for a bit less beef. I don't know. I've also had a pizza, a burrito, and a wonderful beef stew at the Maypole, and some baked potatoes with butter (but no cheese). So maybe protein consumption is actually up a bit from ex150ish-4 levels. But I've been resisting buying cheese which I'd normally eat lots of, so certainly it's lower than usual when I'm not paying attention.
What I was expecting was that my weight would rise sharply for a week as I regained the water-weight and then would start dropping at 0.5 kg/week, like it has after previous ex150 bouts.
I was hoping that the continued low protein might actually make that drop faster!
But what's actually happened is that I seem to have either:
(a) regained 1.5kg of water-weight in about a week (roughly as normal), and then gone stable-ish at around 93kg, roughly what it was pre-Mom-Test.
or
(b) regained less water-weight than usual and then actually gone into slow weight-gaining mode.
And the data's too noisy to tell which of these is actually true.
Thyroid dose dropped a fair bit during ex150ish-4-sour-cream-and-crème-fraîche but has now gone up a bit, mainly because I noticed that my waking temperature seemed a bit too low, and that I occasionally felt a bit sluggish and decided to err on the side of hypermetabolism.
I've been feeling completely fine. In fact I seem to be full of energy and clarity these last few days, pretty much as I do on ex150ish, which is nice. Long may it continue.
Provisionally I think that 'low protein and no-PUFAs' can't be the whole of the answer. I should have seen at least the usual weight drop if it had been. But maybe there was something about the sour cream that has buggered up the usual effect.
So I'm just going to stick with this plan (eat ad lib, no PUFAs or sulphites, keep protein low) for a bit and see what happens.
If my weight starts to actually rise over the next couple of weeks, despite lower than normal protein and no-PUFAs, then I think that will refute my new theory completely.
And that will leave a big mystery as to what has been going on over the last six months of effortless weight loss and apparently improved general metabolism.
If it just stays stable or drops, then perhaps there’s usually some sort of low-protein overhang effect that I just haven’t caused this time because of the extra protein in ex150ish-4-sour-cream-and-crème-fraîche
Let's see!
Maybe it's also you need an active component? Like SEA (found in dark chocolate I believe).
Hm, maybe it's something else about sour cream/creme fraiche that isn't just the protein content? Just given the crazy effect it's had on me.
Although I really don't know what it could be.. how much sour cream/creme fraiche did you eat per day, you'd say?
Plus, given that you added potatoes this time, maybe it's the swamp thing? Were you swamping the last time you lost weight on this? I forget now.
