So I'm on the train returning to Cambridge having spent a full month at home.
I seem to have gained quite a lot of weight. I didn't actually have to buy new trousers but the ones I'm wearing are a lot tighter than they were.
I haven't been noticeably over-eating, but I do seem to have been hungrier than I'm used to. Lots of snacking as well as large and delicious meals.
I'm interested to see whether that's just the continuation of the weight gain I was experiencing anyway, or whether a month at home has accelerated that trend, but I want a week's measurements to take an average of before I form an opinion on that.
I've been getting occasional headaches, so I suspect that some sulphites might have been sneaking through, but I couldn't work out how. No PUFAs as far as I know.
I haven't been taking much T4 at all recently, and I've been wondering if I'm now relying too heavily on desiccated thyroid, which has too much T3 in it, so I've changed my regular thyroid dose to one-half of a T4 tablet (50ug) and one half a grain of NDT to return to my original 100:9 ratio of T4:T3 hormones, and to smooth out the jaggedness in my thyroid supplementation curve.
As a result I've had to stop double-dosing the T3 as it's hard to split NDT pills into four.
At half my original dose, that's slightly more thyroid than I've been habitually taking recently.
I do seem to have been feeling unusually well this last couple of weeks. I have been quite tired for an hour or so after my daily walk (about four miles in hilly terrain). It seems that I've only got a limited budget for exertion and need to recharge for a bit afterwards, but apart from that I haven't been experiencing much in the way of tiredness at all.
But I have been feeling overheated for the last week or so, and my waking temperature does seem to have gone up a bit, so I'm now going to start dropping T4 tablets again.
I've also been experimenting with taking melatonin regularly at 1900, which has resulted in my regularly going to bed at 2100, surprisingly early for me.
Last time I tried this the sleepiness came on a good five hours after the melatonin pill (Sunshine Naturals 300ug) . I've been regularly waking up about 0800, which is eleven hours of solid sleep usually. (I normally need ten). But it's been nice to wake up in the early morning, and there's not really much to do in the Pennines after dark so I've stuck with it for the whole month. Now we've gone over to Summer Time I've switched the pills to 2000 so as not to suddenly shift the pattern relative to the sun.
The melatonin regime may or may not survive my return to the fleshpots of civilization.
