Markets are 'anti-inductive' in theory. As soon as you notice a pattern, it goes away.
Weight-loss should not be anti-inductive. And yet as soon as I noticed that my weight had been dropping steadily since June regardless of whether I was doing ex150ish or not, that effect ceased.
Oh well....
Looking at my notes, on Tuesday 1st August I found a bottle of HP Sauce in the forbidden cupboard. It had gone there because it contains glucose-fructose syrup, and also molasses, and so is not compatible with ex150ish.
I've always loved HP Sauce. It's a very traditional English condiment, basically tomato ketchup with all sorts of extra fruits and spices, and we've been drowning our food in it since Victorian times.
I remember it being mostly tomatoes, vinegar, tamarind and molasses.
Checking the ingredients in the paranoid way I do these days, I found:
Tomatoes, Malt Vinegar (from Barley), Molasses, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Dates, Modified Cornflour, Rye Flour, Salt, Spices, Flavourings, Tamarind
Someone has been fucking with it. You are not telling me that the Victorians used Glucose-Fructose Syrup. And what on earth is modified cornflour? Flavourings has a suspicious ring to it as well. Not even ‘natural flavourings’, which is not as reassuring as it sounds. If they can’t even pass them off as natural, what the hell are the bastards putting in it these days?
Anyway, I thought 'What the hell, GFS is just a form of sugar', and, as I remember, had a bit on a slice of cheese. It was really nice, so I had several more, and then several more for breakfast the following day.
My notes tell me that I felt 'weird and tired' for two days, and 'fine, then down' on the Friday. By 'down' I usually mean inexplicably sad.
Since then, I've just written 'fine' every day, which seems to be my normal state these days, ever since I renounced sulphites.
Molasses, it turns out, often has sulphites added as a preservative. HP sauce does not say 'contains sulphites' on the bottle.
Over the next few days, my weight inexplicably rose a kilo and a half, and has now returned to 94.2 kilos, much as it was a week ago.
Could just be a coincidence, I suppose.
HP Sauce overboard, now on the forbidden list.
