Since I took my last thyroid pill (one-quarter of a grain of dessicated thyroid), my waking temperature has dropped slightly, but only back to its normal level or just above.
But for the last four days or so I've been feeling sluggish and weary and stupid and cold. And I've got hurty feet and acne in strange places and my legs are a bit achy. My daily walk, a three mile round trip over some fairly steep hills, which had started to seem trivially short, has become a bit of a trek. All these things are hypometabolism symptoms.
There are three explanations which seem equally likely to me:
One is just that I overdid it on the protein one day, which I certainly did, but although four days of low protein has made it better, it has not completely fixed the problem.
Another is that Mum confessed that she'd got a curry made with vegetable oil for my Dad mixed up with the one that was made with butter for me, so I might have had a pretty large dose of heart-healthy omega-6 oils a few days ago.
And it's also possible that the levels of exogenous thyroid in my blood have now fallen to negligible, and my own thyroid isn't quite up to the job of regulating my metabolism yet.
So this morning I took one-quarter of a grain of dessicated thyroid, the first for eighteen days. Four hours later I seem to have perked up noticeably.
I still think the curse is lifted, and in fact I'm now reassured that it's not just that I'm starting to go hyperthyroid. But easy does it when tapering off drugs is never a bad idea, I'd rather run slightly fast than slightly slow.
